IURY LECH

Iury Lech is a Spanish transdisciplinary artist descendant of Ukrainian origin, whose work spans new media digital art, experimental cinema, sound art, avant-garde literature and audiovisual performances. His practice interrogates the boundaries between artistry, technology, science and digital aesthetics. His body of work spans decades of innovation in immersive formats that merge sound, image, and code into speculative and sensorially rich experiences.
Living and working at present in Madrid, he integrates as well generative artificial intelligence into his audiovisual processes and performances to explore the boundaries between perception, consciousness,memory and machine logic.
As one of the pioneers of electronic avant-garde art in Spain, Lech exhibit video art installations,  live audiovisual performances, following the implementation of generative and reactive visuals. His body of work spans decades of innovation in immersive formats that merge sound, image, and code into speculative and sensorially rich experiences.

Among his digital video-art installations, mention his Kinetic Paintings, a technique he developed for the video art piece Dye a V(east) and Domesticados Demonios Domésticos (Domesticated Domestic Demons), which dissects the hyperreality of personal behaviors in the private sphere.  Echoes in Dataflesh is an immersive AI digital video installation that explores the blurring line between biological form and digital systems in the context of posthuman discourse. It is an inquiry into the neural generative processes of artificial intelligence —a sensorial journey exploring the frontier between the human and the algorithmic. 

Two of his seminal albums, references of international dark electronic ambient, as Música para el fin de los cantos (1990), were reissued in 2017 & 2020, followed by the remix album Reinterpretaciones (2018), and Otra rumorosa superficie (1989), reissued in 2019. Ontonanology (2023) his vinyl collector’s numbered edition limited to 100 copies, was drawed by Neural journal attention as its «atmospheric and environmental details finds a very distinctive evolution in the work, thanks to a form of deconstruction and spatialised audio treatment that give life to a narration that moves between moments of contemplative quiet and denser, more stratified passages, always maintaining a refined balance between rigor and complexity, where each sound is positioned with surgical precision, as if to emphasize three-dimensionality, making the act of listening an engaging and tactile experience.»

Regarding his books, can be noted La imagen encapsulada: el videoarte como espiral (The encapsulated image: Video Art as a spiral, 2009), an essay on the practice and contemporaneity of the Video Art discipline; the anthology of his complete poetic work under the title of Hiberpoiésis; the trilogy of narrative and rhetorical intrigue Diuturno Inmolado and the sequel novel La divina probabilidad de los recuerdos extintos (The Divine Probability of Extinct Memories, 2023), or the anthology & translation into Spanish on Ukrainian XX Century poetry Una iconografía del alma (An iconography of the soul,1993).

Through both individual creation and curatorial leadership—such as founding in 2009, and until today, the iconic Spanish festival of international reference MADATAC [Contemporary Audio-Visual & Digital New Media Art Mostra] —he has played a key role in shaping the global conversation around digital aesthetics, artificial intelligence (IA) art, and the future of sensory experience.
This  led him to create the Transvirtual Museum of Digital Arts (2014), an ambitious online multiplatform initiative—one of the first of its kind—designed for the exhibition of digital audiovisual art and advanced technologies in New Media Art and Virtual Reality. Through immersive interaction with VR glasses in a 3D environment, the project reimagines the museum space for the 21st century. It aims to promote research, experimentation, and public engagement with digital art in all its forms—bridging audiences, institutions, and the private sector in a collective dialogue on innovation, aesthetics, and the fusion of art, science, and technology.

His new feature film Lapidis (2026) is not a film about artificial intelligence but one created entirely with AI, making it a pioneering feature film, probably worldwide, created with this algorithmic technology. Lapidis follows a nascent artificial consciousness attempting to recall an human origin that may never have existed and proposes a sensory journey through hypermnesia, identity and machine imagination, structured across nine dreamlike sequences.  This peculiarity invites viewers into a dimension where human and artificial perception converge, opening a new frontier for moving-image aesthetics, allowing this audiovisual artwork to be exhibited not only in commercial theaters, but also in museums, art spaces and contemporary art galleries in a 9-channel screen arrangement.
